Autumn Wedding Foxtail Barns
Autumn weddings hold a special place in my heart. The warm, beautiful colours, the fact we still get blue skies but without the stifling heat of the summer and, of course, tweed suits! I do love a bit of tweed!
Emma & James had booked their autumn wedding at the fab Foxtail Barns, one of my favourite Staffordshire venues and just around the corner from where I live!. Foxtail is pretty unique in that it’s stunning all year round. The Walled Garden and surrounding grounds of the Tawny hotel always look great whatever the season but the colours in autumn are just incredible. The reds, deep oranges and golds always look amazing in photographs and the orangery ceremony room is the ideal ‘indoor/outdoor’ space with its views out over the classical walled gardens.
Emma spent the morning getting ready in the Foxtail dressing room, along with her bridesmaids. James was with his groomsmen in the bar area, all looking very dapper in their tweed suits. I took a few relaxed group photos of them out in the garden before leaving them to greet guests and fix their buttonholes.

Back at bridal prep the excitement and anticipation was starting to kick in as it got closer to the ceremony time. There was a very sweet, emotional moment when Emma’s parents and bridesmaids saw her in her wedding dress for the first time. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the room at that point!
Their ceremony was beautiful, full of laughter and emotion. Emma had a huge smile on her face when she walked in on the arm of her proud father and James’s eyes just lit up when he saw her. The orangery is such a perfect ceremony location, whatever the weather. The huge glass windows let in loads of natural light and I love the rustic red brick walls.
After the ceremony everyone mingled in the bar area and courtyard. All the guests were eager to greet Emma and James with huge hugs - this is always one of my favourite moments of the day. There’s so many smiles and emotions to capture.
Autumn wedding photography
I took some family photographs out in the walled gardens as well as in the orangery and then Emma, James and I jumped into a golf buggy and whizzed off to take some portraits around the gorgeous grounds. All the autumn colours were out in the gardens. We found a pathway covered in red leaves which looked amazing, the perfect place for some autumnal wedding portraits.
After taking some very natural pictures of the two of them - I like to keep these short portrait sessions relaxed and laid back with lots of laughter - we headed back to the drinks reception. I took some time to capture all the gorgeous details in the incredible double-height, vaulted-ceiling party barn. It looked amazing, with copper centre pieces and table plan along with woven jute place mats, autumn coloured flowers and deep green foliage.
